Main Brexit key points for EU citizens currently living in UK.

  • People currently holding a Residence permit would continue living, working, studying and getting benefits as usual.
  • The cut off dates for “settling in” are supposed to be set as 29 March 2017 to 29 March 2019. EU citisens that lived in UK less than 5 years before the cut off date, would be able to live and work as usual for two more years. After that they would be able to apply for a temporary permit and only after 5 years of living in UK it would be possible to apply for a residence permit.
  • EU citisens not currently living in the UK would also be able to apply for a settlement in UK if they have a close relative currently living in UK.
  • Any of the applications may be declined if the person has broken laws or may be considered a threat to the UK safety.
